IND vs ENG Dream11 Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips, Playing 11, Pitch Report and Injury Update for 4th T20I Match

Expect India to come hard at England and level the series.

Match Details:

The 4th of the five-

match T20I series between India and England will be played on 18th March at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM IST and local time. It will be streamed live on Star Sports Network, Jio Sports and also can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar.

Preview:

India will take on England in the 4th of the five-match T20I series on Thursday. After losing the 3rd T20I, India are in a must-win situation to stay alive in the series. They were 15-20 runs short in the last T20I as they were thoroughly thrashed by the visitors by 8 wickets with 10 balls to spare. They have tried 3 different opening options in the first 3 matches and all went against them.

With Lokesh Rahul not firing at the top, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan seem likely to open the innings in the 4th T20I. Suryakumar Yadav who was surprisingly benched in the 3rd T20I could come in as a replacement for Lokesh Rahul. King Virat Kohli’s come back to the form is a major boost for the side and he is likely to extend the dream run in the remaining matches.

On the other hand, England are proving again and again why they are a No.1 ranked side in the T20 format. Vice-Captain Jos Buttler’s explosive unbeaten knock of 83* runs from 52 balls gave England a 2-1 lead in the series. Their lethal fast bowling unit is giving India a hard time at the moment.

A lot of credit has to given to the skipper Eoin Morgan for the way he has led the side and has also made impressive bowling changes. They will try to seize the series with one match still left. Both the teams are equally balanced and whoever performs well on a given day will come out on top.

IND vs ENG Weather Report for 4th T20I:

It will be pretty hot in Ahmedabad during day time with the maximum temperature touching 39 degrees Celsius, whereas in the evening it will range between 29 and 35 Degrees Celsius. There is no chance of precipitation for this match.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The batting will become easier as the game progresses. The team batting second has won the last 3 matches played here. There is plenty of assistance for the quick bowlers if they hit the deck hard. There is no room for error for the bowlers especially in the second half of the match. Whoever wins the toss without any hesitation should bowl first on this surface.

Average first innings score:

148 (Last 3 matches played on this venue)

REN vs STA dream11 team prediction tips

Lets take a look at some of the important players from both the sides who are sure to fetch big points in REN vs STA dream11 prediction. There are some big players from both the sides and the credits for the players have all been raised and its a tricky situation for fantasy players.

Sam Harper: He is the only saving grace for the Melbourne Renegades side as he is consistently getting some runs at the top of the order. He compiled a very good half century against this very same side 2 days ago. With the form of Aaron Finch in dire state, the onus will be on Sam Harper to deliver the goods one more time.

Kane Richardson; The lanky fast bowler is leading the pace attack big time and his form has picked up as the tournament as progressed. He has picked 15 wickets in this season so far in 11 games. He can be a decent pick in fantasy leagues. He is also a vice-captain option in grand leagues.

Peter Hatzoglou: The leg spinner is turning out to be a bright prospect and surely, he is climbing the ladder big time. He is bowling very well considering the fact that this is his first season. He has 13 wickets in just 9 games. He should be a top pick for this fantasy round.

Liam Hatcher: He has been in and out of the team but he has impressed big time in each and every outing. He has 13 wickets in 8 games. He is taking the responsibility in the absence of Nathan Coulter-Nile. He merits a place in the fantasy side in small leagues.

Other picks: Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh and Adam Zampa are all first class picks for this round.

Today REN vs STA match score: Team batting first is expected to score around 170

Today match pitch report: The wicket is expected to be on the slower side and bowlers will be using a lot of change ups to taste success.

THU vs HUR Prediction, Dream11 Fantasy Cricket Tips: Playing XI, Pitch Report and Injury Update – BBL 2020-21, Match 43

Sydney Thunder are expected to maintain the status quo by beating Hobart

      Hurricanes.

      Match Details:

The 43rd match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2020-21 season will be played between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

This match will start at 1:45 PM IST (6:15 PM local time). It will be live on Sony Sports Network and live streaming is available on Sony LIV.

      Preview:

After a brilliant start, Sydney Thunder were seen as the favourites to get their hands on the coveted Big Bash League trophy this time around. However, three defeats in four games has changed the complexion of the points table quite a bit.

While they still are placed second, the gap between them and seventh-placed Hobart Hurricanes is just 4 points. Hence, a defeat can possibly push them down to as low as the seventh. On the flip side on the coin, the Hurricanes might be placed at the seventh position currently, but a win here might catapult them to as high as second position.

THU vs HUR Weather Report for Match 43:

It will be a hot day in Canberra tomorrow, as the temperature will be around 28 °C even during the evening. Chances of precipitation are only 10%.

      Pitch Report:

The Manuka Oval has been providing the batsmen will a bit more help than the bowlers. The team winning the toss should opt to chase on this track.

      Average first innings score:

181 (Last 5 BBL 2020-21 matches played at the venue)

      Record of the chasing teams

      Won – 3, Lost – 2, Tie – 0

STA vs REN Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 42

Haris Rauf won't be a part of the Stars' squad after getting picked for Pakistan's Test series against South Africa.

Melbourne Renegades are in absolute disarray in the ongoing edition of the BBL. They started the tournament with a seven-wicket victory, but from then, they haven’t had much to cheer for. With a net run rate of -2.349, Aaron Finch and Co need a miracle to qualify for the next round.

Their next match is against the Melbourne Stars on Sunday, January 17 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. On head-to-head count, the Stars are leading the Renegades by 13-5. At the MCG, the Stars have a 6-3 record in their favour.

They are hanging midway in the points table with 20 points from 10 matches. They also won’t be having the services of Haris Rauf, who has been picked for Pakistan’s home Tests against South Africa. In their previous game, Stars beat the Adelaide Strikers by 111 runs.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the MCG wasn’t an absolute belter to bat on, but despite its slow nature, the Stars managed 179 runs. If a batsman gets his eyes in, bowlers might face the heat.

Batting first should be the way forward as the track might not get better. The temperature will be around 19 degrees Celsius with the humidity in the high-50s. The sun will be out with no chances of rain whatsoever.

      Average first-innings score

STA vs STR Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 40

In their previous meeting, the Strikers comprehensively got past Glenn Maxwell's Stars.

Melbourne Stars, the runners-up of the 2020-21 Big Bash League, haven’t had a memorable ongoing season thus far. Having lost five out of their nine matches, Glenn Maxwell and Co are placed at the seventh place in the points table. They started with two wins, but their campaign has fallen apart.

However, all’s not lost as they are set to play their first game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. They are set to lock horns with the Adelaide Strikers on Friday, January 15. In their previous meeting, the Strikers’ thumped the Stars, but this time around, the latter would have home conditions in their favour.

The Strikers, in the meantime, are placed in the middle of the points table with 20 points from 10 matches. Having beaten the Stars last time around, the Strikers would be high on confidence.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the MCG isn’t an absolute belter for batting. But the venue has been a witness to quite a few nail-biting encounters. Since it hasn’t hosted a T20 match for a while, it might be safe to field first and gauge the nature of the strip before batting on it.

There are chances of rain from 4 PM and hence, there could be a delay in start. The temperature will be around 17 degrees Celsius.

HEA vs REN Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 39

On head-to-head count, the Renegades are leading the Heat by 10-3.

The Brisbane Heat started their ongoing BBL campaign on a jittery note. But four victories, including a three-match winning streak, got them back on track. In their last game, the fought tooth and tail, but lost by three wickets to Sydney Sixers.

Moreover, they won’t be having the services of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who has left due to national duties. Morne Morkel has joined them for the first time. Their next match is against the Melbourne Renegades on Thursday, January 14 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

On head-to-head count, the Renegades are leading the Heat by 10-3. The Renegades, however, are placed at the bottom of the table with nine points at a net run rate of -2.552. But their six-wicket win in their last game over the Adelaide Strikers should give them some confidence.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Canberra has been a belter for batting thus far. Scores over 200 have also been registered a few times. Chasing can be an option since the track isn’t expected to change nature during the course of the encounter.

The playing conditions will be sunny with the temperature around 27 degrees Celsius. The humidity will be in the 30s with no chances of a downpour.

Probable Top Performers for HEA vs REN

      Chris Lynn– Brisbane Heat

Chris Lynn has played only five matches for the Heat in the tournament. However, despite missing quite a few games, the veteran is their leading run-scorer with 223 runs at an average and strike-rate of 44.60 and 151.70 respectively.

He has two half-centuries to show for his efforts with a top score of 69. If the Heat are to secure their fifth victory, the Queenslander can’t afford to drop his guard.

      Aaron Finch– Melbourne Renegades

Aaron Finch is yet to hit his straps in the BBL. After showing great form in the ODI and T20I series against India, the right-hander has tended to strain a wee bit. In eight matches, he has 146 runs at an average and strike-rate of 18.25 and 121.66 respectively.

It goes without saying the skipper needs to come to the party if the Renegades have to get back-to-back wins and get themselves double-digit points.

THU vs SIX Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 38

Daniel Sams has made his way back into the scheme of things after missing a couple of games due to concussion.

It’s time for a top of the table clash in the 2020 edition of the Big Bash League. Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder are set to lock horns on Wednesday, January 13 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Both teams are locked at six wins from nine games, but due to two extra Bash Boost points, the Sixers are the table-toppers.

The Sixers are also coming off a three-wicket win over Brisbane Heat. The Thunder, on the other hand, lost their previous game to the Perth Scorchers. But a net run rate of 1.306 is a massive plus for them going deep into the tournament.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Manuka Oval has been a belter for batting thus far. The venue is set to host its first game in the year 2021. The average score batting first suggests that a high-scoring match will be in the offing.

Hence, chasing can be avoided. The playing conditions would be cloudy with the temperature around 30 degrees Celsius. The humidity will be in the 30s with no chances of rain.

      Average first-innings score

Bench– Hayden Kerr, Justin Avendano, Nicholas Bertus, Ben Manenti, Thomas Rogers, Gurinder Sandhu

A win in their next game would help them leapfrog the Sixers to the top. The Thunder have a delightful piece of news as Daniel Sams has made his way back into the scheme of things after missing a couple of games due to concussion.

SCO vs HUR Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 37

The Scorchers, out of three matches, have never beaten the Hurricanes at the Perth Stadium.

Perth Scorchers started the ongoing edition of the cash-rich Big Bash League with nothing from their first four matches. However, the team, captained by Ashton Turner, are on a four-match winning streak and are climbing the ladder, slowly, but surely.

Though they are placed fifth, they have momentum on their side. Their net run rate of 0.816 is a big positive thing to look up to as well. Their next match is against Hobart Hurricanes on Tuesday, January 12 at the Perth Stadium. The Scorchers would want to sign off playing at home with a victory.

On head-to-head, the Scorchers lead the Hurricanes by 7-6, but at the Perth Stadium, the Hurricanes are unbeaten after three games. Hobart are on the top half of the table but are a bit down on confidence after losing their last two matches.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the venue has been a belter for batting. In the first four games at the ground, the average first innings score suggests that the bowlers won’t be having much room for error.

All four matches were won by the team, batting first and hence, chasing may be avoided. The temperature will be around 28 degrees Celsius with the humidity in the mid-30s. The sun will be shining bright.

Probable Top Performers for SCO vs HUR

      Colin Munro– Perth Scorchers

Colin Munro is currently the leading run-scorer for the Scorchers in the tournament. The left-hander started opening the batting, but after the arrival of Jason Roy, he’s batting in the middle order.

In eight matches, he has notched 237 runs at an average and strike-rate of 29.62 and 130.93 respectively. The southpaw has three half-centuries to show for his efforts and he would be keen for another decent knock.

      Ben McDermott– Hobart Hurricanes

Ben McDermott has simply been outstanding for the Hurricanes in the tournament. In seven matches, the right-handed batsman has 299 runs at an average and strike-rate of 139.06 respectively.

He has a top score of 91 and he’s high on confidence. The Hurricanes are on a two-match losing streak and his team would be hoping for their premier batter to fire on all cylinders.

HUR vs THU Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21,

Daniel Sams has been ruled out of the next game due to concussion.

Sydney Thunder’s run in the 2020-21 BBL has been inspiring thus far. After an initial loss, the team, captained by Callum Ferguson, had a five-match winning streak. However, Brisbane Heat halted their run with a five-wicket defeat at the Gabba.

To rub salt into their wounds, Daniel Sams has been ruled out of their next match against Hobart Hurricanes after the all-rounder suffered a concussion. Having scored 133 runs picking up eight wickets, Sams was a crucial member of the Thunder’s setup.

The Hurricanes, on the other hand, have five wins from their first eight games and have 18 points in their kitty. In their previous match, the Melbourne Stars beat them by 10 runs at the Bellerive Oval. A win for either team would help them cement their position among the top teams in the table.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Perth Stadium has been an excellent one for batting. In the first two games, the team, batting first amassed over 180 runs on the board. But in the next match, the sides can afford to chase as they have power-packed batting units, which can chase big targets down.

The playing conditions will be cloudy with the temperature around 35 degrees Celsius. There won’t be much humidity.

Bench– Alex Ross, Brendan Doggett, Matthew Gilkes, Baxter Holt, Arjun Nair, Jason Sangha, Jonathan Cook

Probable Top Performers for HUR vs THU

      Ben McDermott– Hobart Hurricanes

Ben McDermott is in excellent touch in the ongoing edition of the BBL. In six matches, the right-hander has 277 runs at an average and strike-rate of 55.40 and 136.45 respectively. In the last game, he scored a superlative 91 against the Stars, though his valiant efforts went in vain.

It goes without saying that the right-hander can’t afford to drop his guard if the Hurricanes have to stage a comeback.

      Alex Hales– Sydney Thunder

Alex Hales has arguably been the standout batsman for the Thunder in the tournament. In seven games, the right-hander has notched 243 runs and he is the joint-highest run-getter with Ferguson.

But it’s his strike-rate of 176.08 that stands out from the rest of the batters. Hales can play the big shots and with his wide array of strokes, he can take the Thunder off to a flying start yet another time.

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 27

The pitch at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart is one that will keep both the batsmen as well as the bowlers interested.

In a return fixture of their encounter on January 2nd, 2021, the Melbourne Stars and the Hobart Hurricanes will clash yet again in Match 27 of the Big Bash League on January 4th, 2021. While the Hurricanes are comfortably placed at second place with 5 wins from 7 games, the Melbourne Stars have some catching up to do, having won just two games so far.

In the previous encounter, it was Dawid Malan’s dexterity with the willow that allowed the Hurricanes to comfortably romp home by 21 runs. Billy Stanlake was the pick of the bowlers in the last game for the Stars, scalping 3 wickets and giving away just 25 runs. The Melbourne Stars’ batting line up failed to rise to the occasion in their previous encounter against the Hurricanes.

Only one man, Glenn Maxwell stood tall amidst the ruins, by smashing 5 sixes and 6 fours on his way to a rampaging 70 off just 37 balls. The next highest scorer for the Stars in their previous encounter was Sam Rainbird, who scored just 15 runs.

The Melbourne Stars side is on a three-match losing streak, and they will look to reverse this trend when they take on the Hurricanes in a crucial encounter at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. For the Melbourne Stars, Adam Zampa is expected to return back to action after serving a one-match ban.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart is one that will keep both the batsmen as well as the bowlers interested. While the highest score on this pitch this year has been 205, the lowest score on this pitch is 60. And interestingly, both happened in the same game.

      Average first innings score

The average first innings score at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart in 7 matches this year has been 169.

STR vs SCO Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 21

Both teams have stayed with an unchanged squad.

Perth Scorchers have had a horrendous run in the ongoing edition of the BBL. Having lost three games out of four, winning none, the team are languishing right down the bottom of the points table with two points. Their net run rate of -1.805 hasn’t helped their cause by any means.

Their next match is against the Adelaide Strikers on New Year’s Eve on Thursday, at the iconic Adelaide Oval. Interestingly, at the same venue, a couple of days ago, the Ashton Turner-captained Scorchers went down to the Strikers by 71 runs.

The Strikers, on the other hand, are sitting pretty at the third spot in the table. Winning their last two matches, Alex Carey and Co are slowly, but surely, climbing the ladder. Ahead of the match on December 31, both teams have announced unchanged squads.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Adelaide has been a decent one for batting over the time period. Batting first should be the way forward for both teams as the track might slow down in the second half.

The playing conditions will be mostly clear with the sun around. The temperature will be around 24 degrees Celsius throughout the duration of the match. The humidity will mostly be in the high-30s.

      Average first-innings score

      Perth Scorchers

Josh Inglis (C and WK), Jason Roy, Colin Munro, Liam Livingstone, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner (C), Aaron Hardie, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed

Bench– Cameron Bancroft, Kurtis Patterson, Joel Paris, Matthew Kelly, Corey Rocchiccioli, Sam Whiteman, Liam Guthrie

Probable Top Performers for STR vs SCO

      Phillip Salt– Adelaide Strikers

Phillip Salt has given the Strikers fast starts on a number of instances. In five matches, the opening batsman has notched 118 runs at an average and strike-rate of 23.60 and 137.20 respectively.

The half-century he got against the Scorchers in the last game at the same venue should be keeping him in good stead. Salt is known for his power-hitting and he will be keen to replicate something similar.

      Jason Roy– Perth Scorchers

Jason Roy prefers to take the opposition bowling by the scruff of its neck with his wide array to stroke-play. In his first appearance against the Strikers, the England batter started off in a blistering fashion, scoring 21 runs off only 11 balls at a strike-rate of 190.90.

He fell prey to Daniel Worrall after which the Scorchers’ innings collapse. He will be looking to get a substantial score under his belt.

THU vs STA Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 19?

In their previous meeting, the Stars got the better of the Thunder.

Sydney Thunder started their 2020-21 Big Bash League campaign with a loss to the Melbourne Stars. However, the team, led by Callum Ferguson, have won three matches in a row and are placed second in the points table with 11 points from four games.

Their 129-run victory over the Melbourne Renegades also boosted their net run rate to 1.597- the second-best after Daniel Hughes’ Melbourne Stars, who have an NRR of 2.119. The Thunder are next scheduled to lock horns with the Stars on Tuesday, December 29 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

The Stars, captained by Glenn Maxwell, meanwhile, started with two wins in succession. But a two-match winless streak has pushed them down to fourth in the table. On the head-to-head count, the Stars are leading the Thunder by 8-6 with a win apiece at the Manuka Oval.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Canberra has been a decent one for batting with the average first innings score near to 170. In fact, the Thunder crossed the 200-run mark while batting first at the venue last time around.

The temperature will be around 16 degrees Celsius with the humidity mostly in the high-60s. There are no chances of a downpour though there will be 70 per cent cloud cover during the course of the match.

Bench– Marcus Stoinis, Nic Maddinson, Clint Hinchcliffe, Dilbar Hussain, Lance Morris, Seb Gotch, Tom O’Connell, Jackson Coleman, Jonathan Coleman

Probable Top Performers for THU vs STA

      Callum Ferguson– Sydney Thunder

Callum Ferguson has been in excellent form in the ongoing tournament. In four matches, the right-hander has notched 146 runs at an average and strike-rate of 48.66 and 118.69 respectively.

The fact that he has two fifties including a top score of an unbeaten 61 against the Scorchers shows how devastating he has been. In the next game against a power-packed Stars’ bowling unit, Ferguson might again have to step up.

      Glenn Maxwell– Melbourne Stars

Glenn Maxwell has been a brute force for the Stars thus far in the BBL 2020-21. In three innings, the team’s captain has scored 156 runs at an average and strike-rate of 78 and 152.94 respectively.

He has hit the most boundaries for the Stars and that shows how brutal he has been with the bat in hand. However, he would like to improve on his bowling performance with some wickets in his bag.

SCO vs STR Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 17

Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone have joined the Scorchers.

The Adelaide Strikers have been a tad scratchy in the 2020-21 edition of the Big Bash League. In their first four games, they managed to win two and are precariously placed in the bottom half of the points table.

Their next match is against Ashton Turner’s Perth Scorchers on Monday, December 28. Moreover, the Strikers would get to play at their home ground in Adelaide for the maiden time. On head-to-head count, there’s nothing to separate the teams with eight wins apiece. But in Adelaide, the Strikers have won four of six times.

The Strikers will also have their captain Alex Carey in the next match. The Scorchers will also be bolstered with the inclusion of Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone. The Scorchers have a point in their kitty, but they are yet to win a single match thus far.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Adelaide has been an excellent one over the years. The average first innings score shows that the team, batting first gets a fair bit of advantage. Hence, chasing can be avoided.

The temperature will be around the 17 degrees Celsius mark with the humidity in the 40s. There are no chances of rain and therefore an uninterrupted match can be expected.

THU vs SCO Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 12

Sydney Thunder managed to make amends in the 2020-21 BBL after their 22-run defeat at the hands of Melbourne Stars. The Callum Ferguson-led unit, in their previous game, defeated the Brisbane Heat by four wickets. However, they wouldn’t have gotten over the line if not for Daniel Sams’ 25-ball 65.

It was because of his cameo that the Thunder chased down 179 with seven balls to spare. In their next game on Tuesday, December 22 against the Perth Scorchers at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, the Thunder will also have the services of Adam Milne, the only addition in their squad.

The Scorchers, on the other hand, started with a loss against the Melbourne Renegades. In their next game against the Stars, they found themselves in a commanding position before rain played spoilsport.

      Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Canberra has been a sporting one thus far. The bowlers have made hay and the batters have been able to find the boundary without much fuss as well. The team batting second have gotten a bit of advantage though.

There are chances of rain in the morning, but not anywhere near match time. The temperature will be around 16 degrees Celsius with the humidity mostly in the low-40s.

HEA vs STR Match Prediction – Who will win today’s match? BBL 2020-21, Match 13

Alex Carey and Harry Conway won't be a part of the Strikers due to border restrictions.

The ongoing edition of the Big Bash League hasn’t started well for the Brisbane Heat. Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder defeated them by comprehensive margins. Placed at the bottom of the points table, Chris Lynn and Co would be looking to make amends in their third match against Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday, December 23 at their home ground- The Gabba in Brisbane.

At the very venue, the Heat have lost to the Strikers four out of five times with their only win coming in the previous season. The Strikers, on the other hand, are placed midway in the points table with one win from three games.

For the next game, they won’t be having the services of Alex Carey and Harry Conway due to border restrictions. In Carey’s place, speedster Peter Siddle will be the skipper.

The pitch at The Gabba has been a belter for batting over the years. The team batting first, on an average, scores over the 170-run mark in T20I cricket. Hence, batting first and putting runs on the board should be the way forward for the teams.

The temperature will be around the 26 degrees Celsius mark with the humidity around the mid-50s. The conditions will mostly be cloudy.

With series already in grasp, New Zealand will be eyeing a clean sweep when they meet Pakistan in the third and final T20I in Napier on Tuesday. The New Zealand have been unbeaten in their home season so far, having won the three-match T20I series against West Indies 2-0 (one match abandoned) and registering a 2-0 whitewash of the Windies side in Tests. The Kiwis then ended their five-match losing streak against Pakistan in the shrotest format of the game in the ongoing T20I series, defeating a Babar Azam-less side by five wickets in Auckland. The hosts put out a stronger performance in the second match, cruising to a 9-wicket win as Mohammad Hafeez's unbeaten 99 went in vain. After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bowl first. Tim Seifert (35 off 20) got the hosts off to a good start but Faheem Ashraf wreaked havoc in the middle overs with his quick wickets. Glenn Phillips (31 off 20) and Devon Conway (63 off 45) stitched the innings back together and the latter guided his team to 173/7 at the end of 20 overs. Ashraf ended with impressive figures of 3/20.

Preview: After losing to hosts in first T20I, Pakistan would be hoping to come back to winning ways in second T20I at Hamilton. A loss at Hamilton will finish the hopes of a T20 series victory for the visitors.

Not to forget, Pakistan will be led by Shadab Khan again and in the third T20 as well, in absence of captain Babar Azam has been ruled out of the series.

For Kiwis, captain Kane Williamson will return to take part in the secons T20I after the birth his child a few days ago, which means the challenge for the visitors gets tougher.

In the first T20I, NZ fast bowler Jacob Duffy had taken 4/33 on debut to set up the home team’s five-wicket victory in the opener of the three-match series.

With the impetus Duffy gave its bowling performance, New Zealand had Pakistan 5-39 and restricted it to 153-9 after the tourists won the toss and batted.

Opener Tim Seifert made 57 — his fourth T20 half century — to lead New Zealand’s chase at it reached its winning total with seven balls to spare. He had help from Mark Chapman, who made 34, and Mitchell Santner, who was 12 not out at the end.

Duffy and fellow New Zealand quicks Scott Kuggeleijn and Blair Tickner crowded the Pakistan batsmen with full deliveries and also surprised them with bounce. Determined to play their shots, the Pakistan top order batsmen gave up their wickets cheaply as they hit out before taking the pace of the pitch. Several fell to catches in front of the wicket as the ball held up.

Left-arm spinner Santner bowled the first over and Duffy had the first wicket in the second over when he drew a false shot from Shafique Ali, who was caught at mid-on by Mark Chapman.

With successive deliveries in his next over he dropped a caught and bowled chance, then dismissed Mohammad Rizwan (17) and had Mohammad Hafeez first ball, caught at mid-on.

Kuggeleijn dismissed Haider Ali with the first ball of the next over to complete a team hat trick — three wickets in three balls. He also removed Imad Wasim (19) and Ish Sodhi dismissed Khushdil Shah (16) before Duffy returned to claim the wicket of Shadab, who was caught in the deep by Sodhi.

Pakistan was in trouble at 79-6 but Faheem Ashraf hit 31 from 18 balls to boost the total.

      Squads:

New Zealand Squad: Martin Guptill, Glenn Phillips, Kane Williamson(c), Tim Seifert(w), Devon Conway, James Neesham, Kyle Jamieson, Scott Kuggeleijn, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Todd Astle, Daryl Mitchell

Pakistan Squad: Mohammad Rizwan(w), Abdullah Shafique, Haider Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Shadab Khan(c), Khushdil Shah, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Wahab Riaz, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Usman Qadir, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Musa, Mohammad Hasnain

Opener Joe Burns scored an unbeaten fifty as the hosts ended with 93 for 2 in 21 overs in their second innings. Earlier, India had folded their second innings in their lowest ever Test total of 36/9 in the morning session. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood ran through the Indian top-order on Day 3 of the first Test in Adelaide. Cummins removed Jasprit Bumrah early and then got the big wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara (0) to push India back. Josh Hazlewood then dismissed Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane in his first over. Virat Kohli was the next to go in Cummins’ over as India were reduced to 19 for 6. Hazlewood struck two more wickets off two balls to get rid off Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin. India lost 7 wickets this morning for just 15 runs as the day-night Test took a dramatic turn. With this win, Australia take a 1-0 lead in the 4-match Test series.

During the first day of the pink-ball Test between India and Australia, it was the broadcasters 'Seven', who generated huge interest among the audience with 420,000 watching the first session on the channel at 3pm, according to Mediaweek. The numbers topped 536,000 in the early hours of the second session. While in the third session, the numbers rose to 1m viewers watching India bat.

Part-sluggish, part-attritional day of the Test match cricket would not have been what the host broadcasters would have had in their minds to back their build-up to India vs Australia blockbuster series, but it was exactly that kind of day in the four-match series opener at the Adelaide Oval on Friday. However, the star of the build-up - Indin skipper Virat Kohli - did live up to his top billing with a solid 74 off 180 balls before he was run-out by his deputy Ajinkya Rahane, late in the day. Rahane's departure soon after swung the day in Australia's favour, who after a solid first session seemed to lose way in the second. India finished day one of the first Test at 233/6 with the Wriddhiman Saha (9*) playing out a tough third session under lights. He has Ravichandran Ashwin for company on 15 off 17 balls.

India opted to bat first and Mitchell Starc had Prithvi Shaw's scalp off the second ball of the day before Mayank Agarwal's 40-ball 17 run knock came to end at the hand of a Pat Cummins special. Cheteshwar Pujara was rock solid before bat-padding one off Lyon while Kohli, available for this Test only, looked good for a century before a mix up had him walking back just three overs before the new ball was taken. The new ball and a fuller length from Starc accounted for a shaken Rahane for 42.

Earlier, Starc bowled a strong opening over to set the early tone after Kohli had aimed to put pressure on the home team by batting first. The left-arm fast bowler clean bowled Shaw off the second ball through an in-swinger and Pujara edged Starc in the same over which fell just short of diving Australian captain Tim Paine behind the wickets. Cummins pinned down both batsmen by bowling four successive maiden overs before he knocked the top of Agarwal's middle stump off a delivery that nipped back into the right-hander.

Both Agarwal and Pujara survived some close chances inside the first hours against Starc's pace. Pujara's flick against the left-armer eluded diving Nathan Lyon at leg gully while Travis Head couldn't grasp a hard chance at forward short leg off Agarwal. Kohli could have been dismissed on 16 in off-spinner Nathan Lyons third over when television replays suggested the Indian skipper might have gloved a leg-side catch behind the wickets, but Australia didn't go for a television referral.

The Indian skipper also needed a brief on-field medical treatment when he injured his right thumb while facing a sharp short-pitch delivery from Starc before pulling the left-arm fast bowler for a mid-wicket boundary in the same over. Pujara showed immense temperament against well-disciplined bowling and got his first boundary off his 148th ball when he hit Lyon for back-to-back fours.

However, he fell for the 10th time in Test matches to Lyon when Australia successfully went for a television referral when Marnus Labuschagne took a smart two-handed diving catch at leg gully as the ball clearly ballooned off Pujaras bat on the leg side. Rahane and Kohli then put on 88 for the fifth wicket, looking set to finish the day unbeaten, until the mix-up. Rahane played one from Nathan Lyon towards mid-off and took two steps, Kohli responded and by the time Rahane said no, Kohli was halfway down the pitch and Josh Hazlewood had picked up the ball throwing it to Lyon, who effected an easy run-out.

The new ball was taken in the first over itself Starc trapped Rahane in front. Hazelwood added the wicket of Vihari two overs later before Saha and Ashwin saw through the day.

Centre, Bengal Govt Agree to Hold Virtual Meet on 'Law and Order' Days After Mamata Snubbed Summons

This is the second time that the two top officials have been summoned to Delhi. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last week refused to send the state’s chief secretary and police chief to New Delhi deterring from compliance with Union Home Ministry’s summons after the attack on Nadda’s convoy in West Bengal’s Diamond Harbour on December 10.

The Centre and West Bengal government have agreed to hold a virtual meeting on Friday at 5pm to discuss the "law and order situation" in the state post an attack on BJP Chief JP Nadda's convoy last week.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had asked the Chief Secretary and DGP West Bengal for a meeting in Delhi, ANI reported. The communication was sent on Thursday, and the meeting was scheduled for Friday at 5.30 pm amid escalation of the row between the Bengal government and Centre over an attack on Nadda's convoy last week. The top officers had responded seeking a virtual meeting with the Centre, instead.

This is the second time that the two top officials were summoned to Delhi. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last week refused to send the state’s chief secretary and police chief to New Delhi deterring from compliance with Union Home Ministry’s summons after the attack on Nadda’s convoy in West Bengal’s Diamond Harbour on December 10.

In the same week, Nadda’s convoy was pelted with stones at Sirakol in Diamond Harbour area of South 24 Parganas district, where he had gone to address a rally.

The MHA had summoned Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay and DGP Virendra last Friday asking them to present themselves on December 14 for an explanation on the law and order situation in the state, following Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s report on the attack on Nadda’s convoy.

Bandopadhyay however, wrote to Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, saying he has been directed to request to “dispense with the presence of the state officials” in the meeting convened on December 14.

SHA vs ABD Dream11 Team Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips & Playing-11 Updates for Today’s Dream11 Emirates D20 Tournament Match – December 16th, 2020

Sharjah Bukhatir XI take on Abu Dhabi in Match 16 of Emirates D20 Tournament.

Sharjah Bukhatir XI have played three games, out of which they have managed to grab a win twice. At the moment, they find themselves placed below Dubai in the table due to a poorer net run rate. Sharjah succumbed to a 64-run defeat to ECB Blues in the previous game and would look to bounce back from that loss.

Abu Dhabi, meanwhile, have had a terrible campaign so far. They are winless in their last 5 matches and have been outplayed in every game. It’s not about the fact that they have lost so many games. The fact that they didn’t even come close to winning a single match is what would haunt the side.

The last time these two sides met was on 12th December. Sharjah beat Abu Dhabi by 31 runs in that encounter. They are the favorites for this face-off as well.

      Squads to choose from:

      Sharjah Bukhatir XI

ST vs BH BBL Dream11 Prediction Today: Fantasy cricket tips for Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat match

Match 7 of the ongoing BBL 2020-21 edition will see Sydney Thunder take on the Brisbane Heat at the Manuka Oval, Canberra. Here's the Dream11 prediction for ST vs BH -

Match 7 of the ongoing BBL 2020-21 edition will see two winless sides, so far, lock horns with each other. Chris Lynn-led Brisbane Heat will square off with Callum Ferguson-led Sydney Thunder at the picturesque Manuka Oval, Canberra in the sole encounter on Monday (December 14).

Both sides have played one game each so far and lost to the same opposition, in the form of the Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars. While Thunder lost to the Stars by 22 runs, the Brisbane Heat fell behind the same team by 6 wickets after a below-par batting performance by them, which saw the Heat fold for 125 all-out.

In six games so far, teams batting first have won 4 times. Hence, batting first will be a tempting option for both sides heading into the contest in Canberra.

The Big Bash League – T20 Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades match will begin at 1.45 PM IST. The Sixers are coming off a defeat against the Hobart Hurricanes in the opening game of the season. They generally failed to restrict the Hurricanes after a strong start and further failed to chase down the total. James Vince showed some form with the bat which is a very good sign for them. On the other hand, Melbourne Renegades registered a big win against the Scorchers on Saturday. Their bowling has been top-notch and successfully restricted the opposition within 130 only. A 53-ball 80 from Matthew Wade and a well made fifty from Glenn Maxwell guided Australia to 186/5 in 20 overs against India in the third T20I in Sydney. The Australian innings largely dominated by Wade’s power-hitting after Sundar got rid of Aaron Finch (0) very cheaply. He was the dominant partner during the 65-run stand with a scratchy Steve Smith (24) but played the second fiddle once Maxwell (54) came to bat. In reply, skipper Virat Kohli smashed a 61-ball 85 but but India could only reach as far as 174/7 in their pursuit of 187 in 20 overs.

Ind vs Aus 2nd T20 – Will Cricket Australia recall Steve Smith as captain? According to Herald Sun report, Smith is the front runner along with Mathew Wade

With vice-captain Pat Cummins rested ahead of the India Test series, Smith along with Matthew Wade are the only possible choice to replace Finch as the captain.

BCCI AGM meet: Two new IPL teams, ICC representative up for discussion on December 24

The BCCI will hold its Annual General Meeting on December 24 to discuss the induction of two new IPL franchises besides the appointment of India’s ICC representative and three new national selectors.

The BCCI will hold its Annual General Meeting on December 24 to discuss the induction of two new IPL franchises besides the appointment of India’s ICC representative and three new national selectors. Also on the agenda is the election of a new vice-president. As per norm, the BCCI has sent a 23-point agenda to all affiliated units 21 days prior to the holding of the AGM.

The most significant point is seeking approval for two new teams to make it a 10-team IPL. It is understood that the Adani Group and Sanjeev Goenka’s RPG (owners of the Rising Pune Supergiant) are interested in owning new teams with one franchise surely from Ahmedabad.

Another important point will be BCCI’s representative to the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council. It is expected that secretary Jay Shah will be the BCCI representative in the global committees. Appointment of three new selectors, along with a chairman of selectors, is also on cards given that Cricket Committees and Standing Committees are part of the agenda.

“Selection committee is a part of cricket committee plus the technical committee also needs to be formed. They are all statutory sub committees,” a senior BCCI source said.

National Cricket Academy will also come up for deliberation.

The agenda also includes discussion on India’s Future Tours Program for 2021, preparation with regards to organisation of next year’s T20 World Cup (includes the ICC tax issue) and inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. On the administrative front, one of the primary points on the agenda is election of new vice president, a position which has been left vacant after Mahim Verma’s resignation.

It is expected that the choice would be unanimous. Also, two representatives from the governing body will get a seat in the IPL governing council.

Syed Mushtaq Ali the tournament of choice for State Associations

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has emerged as the tournament of preference among state associations for the 2020-21 domestic season, with Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy finding almost equal support as the second tournament of choice.

Explaining why Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has been a tournament of preference, one of the association officials told Cricbuzz, "It is easier to handle the bio bubble in the shortest format. Hopefully, things should improve in two months before Ranji Trophy commences."

The domestic T20 competition, which is scheduled to be held from December 20 to January 10, may have found support, but Saurashtra Cricket Association and Kerala Cricket Association have requested the BCCI to delay the start of the tournament to January.

"It is indeed immensely challenging to host BCCI's domestic tournament in prevailing situation," Jaydev Shah, SCA secretary, wrote in an email to BCCI. "Any tournament must start from January 2021 only. This will give enough time to every member association to have the required preparation of teams, etc. Starting from December 2020 could be too early, as we have so far not called any players for training, etc under the prevailing situation"

Kerala Cricket Association too stated on similar lines: "Due to strict government measures cricketing activities are yet to resume. The cricketers are deprived of training and pre-season preparation. Under these circumstances, getting the state team ready for the domestic season by 20th December is unimaginable. The latest any format of the domestic tournament should begin is from 1st week of January 2021."

The Haryana Cricket Association has also held reservation against hosting of any cricket till the time the pandemic situation improves, and as a choice of preference, have suggested hosting only the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. "We feel that it would be safest to not conduct any domestic cricket this season while ensuring that the cricketers get paid to tide over this difficult period," HCA stated in their email accessed by Cricbuzz. "I am positive that some equitable solution could easily be worked out collectively. However, if the BCCI was to conduct domestic cricket, we would of course leave no stone unturned to ensure our participation."

The Hyderabad Cricket Association have suggested that the BCCI host Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy first up and then assess what would be the best course of action thereafter. "Only on the successful completion of the T20 league, we would be in a position to decide the way forward for Ranji Trophy," Mohammed Azharuddin, the HCA president, wrote in an email to BCCI.

While the window for Vijay Hazare Trophy is from January 11-February 7, for Ranji Trophy, it extends till March 18.

While the cricket associations of Haryana and Himachal have suggested that only Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy be played, those from Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tripura, Meghalaya, Goa, Manipur, Bengal and Andhra have suggested that both Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy be played.

Meanwhile, associations from Arunachal, Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Chandigarh have listed out Vijay Hazare Trophy as their second choice option. Odisha Cricket Association has also given a preference to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, while adding that any of Ranji Trophy or Vijay Hazare Trophy works for them as the second option. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association have listed all three tournaments with an order of preference.

On November 28, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, had written to the state associations seeking their recommendation on which tournament should be hosted, offering them four options: Only Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Only Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy or Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. The state associations were given time till December 2 to revert to the Indian cricket board.

The BCCI had claimed in the email that they will create six bio-secure bubbles across the country to host the domestic season with each hub consisting of three venues. Several associations, in their response to BCCI, have also proposed to host the tournament.

Australia vs India: Aaron Finch Names Three Players Who Can Replace David Warner In 3rd ODI

India vs Australia: Australia captain Aaron Finch called David Warner an all-time great in ODI and T20I cricket.

Skipper Aaron Finch on Monday admitted that any side will become weaker in star batsman David Warner's absence but asserted Australia have a number of options to cover the sizeable loss. Warner has been ruled out of the limited-overs fixtures against India due to a groin strain and will miss the remaining white-ball matches. Finch cited wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey, Marnus Labuschagne, and Matthew Wade as the possible options Australia can try for opening the innings along with the skipper.

"We have not picked a team yet, but we have got a few options. Whether we go Wadey in the side or Marnus comes up and opens the batting, Alex Carey has done a lot of it in the past," cricket.com.au quoted Finch as saying.

"But the middle-order has been functioning really well over the last little while. That is the beauty of being two-nil up in the series, you can look to experiment if you want to do that or you can look to play the safe option," he added.

Finch also highlighted the importance of Warner in the playing XI and said he is an all-time great when it comes to limited-overs cricket.

"He is an all-time great in one-day and T20 cricket. I do not think there are many better players to have played the game," said Finch.

"So any team he is not a part of is going to be slightly weaker but we have got guys that can step and really contribute heavily in that role," he added.

Australia defeated India by 51 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series on Sunday. With this win, Australia gained a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-match series.

Meanwhile, batsman D'Arcy Short, who last played a T20I in February 2019, has replaced injured Warner in the T20I squad.

Listen to the latest songs, only on JioSaavn.com

The Big Bash League's leading run-scorer in 2017-18 and 2018-19, Short has been brought into the squad as a like for like left-handed opening batsman for Warner.

Moreover, spearhead Pat Cummins will miss the rest of the limited-overs fixtures against India to have some rest until the opening long-from game at Adelaide Oval from December 17.

India vs Australia: ‘Impulsive captain’ Virat Kohli changing bowlers frequently - Ashish Nehra

India vs Australia: While it looked Kohli wanted Shami to change the end from where he was bowling, the India captain let Sain continue the attack, instead of bringing back Bumrah.

The 2nd ODI between India and Australia saw Virat Kohli’s bowling line-up struggling again on a dry surface that had little on offer for the bowlers. But one of the unexpected features of the match was how frequently Virat Kohli kept changing his bowlers. While it was Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah who started the attack for India, the former was replaced by Navdeep Saini after just two overs.

While it looked Kohli wanted Shami to change the end from where he was bowling, the India captain let Sain continue the attack, instead of bringing back Bumrah.

Also read: ‘We were ineffective with the ball,’ Virat Kohli disappointed with bowling efforts after ODI series loss

Kohli also gave overs to Mayank Agarwal and Hardik Pandya in the middle when his bowlers struggled in the middle.

Speaking in an interaction on Cricbuzz, former India pacer Ashish Nehra said that Kohli is an impulsive captain, but he needs to figure out when to change his bowlers.

“In today’s game, Virat Kohli gave two overs to Mohammed Shami and then brought Navdeep Saini. He wanted Shami to bowl from the other end, that I understand, but then, why would he use Jasprit Bumrah for only two overs with the new ball?” Nehra said.

South Africa vs England Live Streaming, 2nd T20I: When and where to watch SA vs ENG live online?

South Africa take on England in the second T20I of the 3-match series in Cape Town. Here's how to watch the match live online.

Marking the return of international cricket in the Rainbow Nation, South Africa hosted a daunting Eoin Morgan-led England line-up in the first of the three-match T20I series on Friday (November 27). The inexperienced Quinton de Kock-led side wasn't off to the best of start as they failed to defend a competitive 180 in the series opener at Newlands, Cape Town.

Opting to bowl first, Morgan & Co. were punished by Proteas' former skipper in the form of Faf du Plessis, who carried on his form from IPL 2020 edition, to return with an impressive 40-ball 58. As a result, the home side posted 179 for 6. In reply, England's batting depth proved to be the difference as Jonny Bairstow, batting at No. 4, remained unbeaten for 86 and was well-supported by Ben Stokes (37) to take his side home by 5 wickets.

The second and penultimate tie is now a must-win clash for De Kock & Co. to remain alive in the series.

Australia vs India 1st ODI: Marcus Stoinis Suffers Side Injury, In Doubt For Second ODI Against India: Report

Australia vs India: Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is doubtful for second ODI on Sunday after he sustained a left-side pain while bowling in the first ODI

Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis could be in doubt for the second ODI against India after he sustained an injury during the series opener on Friday, according to reports. Stoinis grimaced in pain after delivering the second ball of his seventh over of India's run chase. He left the field immediately and Glenn Maxwell completed the over. According to cricket.com.au, the 31-year-old suffered a "left-side pain" and will have scans to determine the extent of the injury. Stoinis' injury may put all-rounders Cameron Green and Moises Henriques in contention for the second ODI at the SCG on Sunday.

Steve Smith, who hit a 62-ball century in the 66-run win for Australia, said the team is keeping its fingers crossed on Stoinis' situation.

"I don't know how Stoinis is. I haven't seen him but fingers crossed he's OK. But if he's not then someone has to come in, and someone who's a bowler so perhaps Cameron (Green)," Smith was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Green has been in good form both with bat and ball during the Sheffield Shield.

"He's obviously started the Shield season really well, and he's a bright talent. I faced him for a couple of balls this afternoon in the nets before the game, it was the first time I've seen him bowl and he bowls a heavy ball," said Smith.

Suresh Raina "Officially Communicated" Retirement Decision A Day After Public Announcement: BCCI

BCCI said that Suresh Raina officially communicated his retirement on August 16, one day after announcing it in public via social media.

Suresh Raina communicated his retirement decision to the BCCI a day after he made it public, the Board said on Monday, lauding the former India all-rounder for being a key player in the limited-overs format. Minutes after Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his international retirement on August 15, 33-year-old Raina followed his mentor in doing the same. "Attacking left-hand batsman Suresh Raina officially communicated to BCCI on Sunday about his decision to retire from international cricket," said the BCCI in a statement. The usual norm is players informing the BCCI before announcing retirement.

Raina represented India in 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is in an international career spanning 13 years. He also had the honour of captaining the team briefly.

"Under his captaincy, India registered a 3-2 series victory in West Indies and a 2-0 win over Bangladesh in ODIs and a 2-0 T20 International series win in Zimbabwe," the statement added.

Raina, who scored a century on debut in Test cricket, is also the first Indian to slam hundreds in all three formats of the game All three centuries came away from home.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly paid a glowing tribute to a fellow southpaw. "Suresh Raina has been one of the key performers in limited overs cricket for India. Coming lower down the order and playing some of the match-winning knocks requires a lot of skill and talent," Ganguly stated.

England on the right path to become No.1 again - Trott

Trott believes England are going about things the right way in Test cricket

Jonathan Trott, England's batting coach for the series against Pakistan, believes the pieces are "in place" for England to become the world's best Test team.

As the team's rock at number three, Trott was a vital part of the last England side to reach the top of the world rankings in 2011 and he believes the current squad are heading in the right direction. He accepts, however, that there are differences between the side he was part of and Joe Root's current crop.

One of those differences is in the experience of the two sets of players. The side that became the number one team in 2011, and which beat Australia in the famous 2010/11 Ashes series, had far more caps, and a greater body of work behind them, than England's present day team yet have. "I was lucky to play in that side," Trott said. "I often find myself talking to ex-teammates about how good it was and reminiscing again.

"It is a different stage. Guys then were in their late 20s. Openers who had played over 100 Tests, four and five played over 100 Tests. At the moment we only have two bowlers with over 100 Tests. So the batting side is different. These are exciting players but at a different stage of their careers and that can only be good for English cricket.

"It is in good hands. The way guys are going about it in Test cricket and steps taken to hopefully getting back to No. 1 in the world are in place and they're going about in the right way. Test victories like the last game put you on track to go and do that, they give you confidence."

Since that 2010/11 3-1 series victory in Australia, during which Trott scored hundreds at the Gabba and MCG and averaged 89, success down under has been elusive. England were thumped in the next two away Ashes series, losing 5-0 in 2013/14 and then 4-0 in 2017/18. Improving on that recent record is England's main goal in Test cricket and they have made no secret that they are building towards next winter's series in Australia.

Root's team is, however, still developing and as a result, remains inconsistent. They will have to improve significantly in the 14 months between now and the first Test in Brisbane. With the uncertainty generated by the coronavirus pandemic, particularly in terms of how many Tests England might play in the intervening period, time is of the essence.

"I hope so," Trott said when asked if England have the time. "The dedication and desire is there but it is how much cricket is played after this series and in the winter, to accelerate that process and build as a unit. When you have continuity and the team selects itself you have confidence in each other and then you start building the relationships, on and off the field. You get the familiarity batting together. So it's not just becoming comfortable as an individual but as a pair."

One player who will hope to be on that tour is Rory Burns who was dismissed fourth ball for 0 during the seven overs of England's innings which were possible on the fourth day. After Pakistan's final pair added an extra 13 runs, Shaheen Shah Afridi found Burns' edge from the first ball of England's innings - it fell just short of slip - and three balls later, bowled a full, fast delivery which shaped away late from the left-hander which Burns again edged. This time, it carried to second slip.

"Not much he can do when you get that early on," Trott said. "The balls leading up they bowled quite well as well so not just one ball. It was unfortunate but it was always going to be a tough little period with the weather coming and unfortunately he edged that one. He is working hard, he just needs time in the middle for it to click for him."

The fourth day was again blighted by the weather, with only 10.2 overs possible. Unless something wildly dramatic happens, the match will end in a draw. Nevertheless, given the helpful bowling conditions, it will be hard work for England to keep Pakistan's excellent attack at bay on the final day. Trott says it is important that the home side keep their wits about them to ensure that they keep the momentum ahead of the third and final Test which begins on Friday (August 21).

"It is important we don't just see it as a day to bat out and walk away with the draw and be one nil up," Trott said. "There is still work to be done against new ball to make sure we are in a good place for the third Test. Let's just make sure we get the job done tomorrow. We've seen strange things happen in cricket and we know the conditions will be pretty tough if the weather is similar so lots of hard work tomorrow."

After the early loss of Burns, Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley played nicely in the face of some brilliant new-ball bowling from Afridi and Mohammad Abbas to remain unbeaten when the rain forced the players off just after midday local time. Although the challenge will probably not be any easier tomorrow, a significant innings against this attack, in these conditions, would be a boon for England's opener and number three.

"Taking that confidence into next game is crucial for them," Trott added. "They will be sitting back at the hotel now really ambitious and determined to do well tomorrow. It is about going out there and combatting the conditions we find out there and both are capable of doing that. We've seen them both bat time in the first class game and Dom Sibley in Test match cricket so we'd like to see some more of that."

IPL title rights: BCCI likely to ask Dream11 to revisit bids for 2021 and 2022 - Report

According to BCCI sources, this is precisely the reason why the board has not yet officially announced Dream11 as IPL title rights holder even though league chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed this on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD, INDIA - MAY 12: Rohit Sharma of the Mumbai Indians and MS Dhoni of the Chennai Super Kings are seen at the coin toss during the Indian Premier League Final match between the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on May 12, 2019 in Hyderabad, India.

      • According to BCCI sources, this is precisely the reason why the board has not yet officially announced Dream11 as IPL title rights holder even though league chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed this on Tuesday.

The company replaced Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Vivo, which had to pull out for this season because the Sino-India border stand-off.

Sources said BCCI and Dream11 are still negotiating on the conditional three-year bid under which the company is supposed to pay Rs 240 crore each in 2021 and 2022 if Vivo doesn’t make a comeback with its yearly Rs 440 crore deal.

      • “It was always clear that the highest bidder may not get the title rights (it was specified by the BCCI before accepting the Expression of Interest from bidders),” a veteran BCCI official, privy to the development, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“Having said that, Dream11 has bid the highest and are still favourites to get it, a few issues are still being ironed out before an official announcement comes,” he added.

      • It is learnt that BCCI is in discussions with Dream11 to revisit their second and third year bids and wants them to increase the amounts.

“If it’s for only year 2020, then Rs 222 crore works fine. But it was a conditional bid for three years. We still have our deal with Vivo on,” he said.

“We haven’t closed it as it’s a pause. If we are getting Rs 440 crore, why will we settle for Rs 240 crore?” the official asked.

      • In this scenario, Dream11 has two options -- either to accept a one-year or rather four months 13 days deal of Rs 222 crore or increase the conditional amount for 2021 and 2022, which is their discretion.

      • BCCI had said the choice of the sponsor will not be based solely on the highest bid, but Dream11 did top the tables. (Mint)

Gaming firm is the winner of cricket’s biggest title deal

Fantasy gaming platform Dream11 on Tuesday won the title sponsorship for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) for 222 crore, almost half of what India’s cricket board would have got had Chinese phone maker Vivo stayed as the title sponsor.

Amid anti-China sentiments following the Ladakh border clash where 20 Indian soldiers died, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Vivo agreed to pause the sponsorship for this year. Vivo had agreed to pay 440 crore per year for the five-year deal. Interestingly, Dream11, which replaces Vivo, itself is backed by Tencent Holdings of China.
